MEDITERRANEAN FENNEL SEEDS

Fennel seeds derive from the homonymous plant, native to southern Europe.
Used since the Romans who spread its use, fennel is now used all over the world.
The seeds common in Italy have a strong aroma that recalls that of anise (in fact, it contains anethole, like anise) without being as sweet as the latter.

 


How are fennel seeds used?

Fennel seeds are used to flavor white and red meats (especially pork), fish broths and sauces.
They are also ideal for flavoring bread, pasta dishes and savory pies.
Fennel seeds can be used in the kitchen whole or ground at the moment, to preserve their aroma.
Fennel is also one of the main ingredients of the "five Chinese spices".
