BLUE POPPYSEEDS

The poppy seeds used in cooking come from the papaver opium poppy plant, an ancient plant that grows wild and is native to the Middle East.
Already the Egyptians used poppy as a condiment and the ancient Greeks put it in honey cakes that gave energy to athletes during the Olympics.

 

How to use Poppyseeds?

They have a sweet and delicate flavor that goes well with pastries and baked goods.
They are widely used in cooking for the preparation of cakes, pastries, donuts, spread on bread, cookies and pretzels.
Poppy seeds are also excellent added to strudels and salads.
In France, a cooking oil called "olivette" is extracted from oily poppy seeds.
