GROUND CARAWAY

Caraway is the seed of a plant that grows spontaneously in temperate areas, which is why it is also called caraway.
Ground kummel caraway maintains its aroma, flavor and quality unaltered.

Caraway seeds, used whole or ground, have a pungent flavor similar to anise and an aroma that comes from the essential oils they contain, such as limonene and carvone.

They are used as spices, especially in northern European countries, to flavor bread and in particular that of rye.
The caraway fruit is also used for making liqueurs, such as Kümmel, and for flavoring stewed meats and other dishes, especially in Central European and Scandinavian cuisine.

They are also very popular for flavoring particular types of cheese and spirits.
In the field of herbal medicine, kummel is used for its medicinal virtues capable of facilitating digestion and eliminating bloating and for its mild intestinal antiseptic effect.


How is Kummel - Carvi used?

Ground caraway kummel is ideal for flavoring sweets, cakes, biscuits and bread, but also vegetables and meats in general.
Kummel seeds are used in Germany and Eastern Europe to flavor all kinds of vegetables, pork, goose and goulash.
