YELLOW MUSTARD SEEDS

Yellow mustard is the seed of an aromatic plant known since ancient times, native to Southern Europe.

The mustard plant was in fact used since Roman times both as a medicinal spice (Hippocrates already speaks of it), and as a culinary one.
The Romans already mixed it with vinegar and honey, nuts and spices and for the preparation of many tasty sauces.
Grain mustard is used both as a condiment and to preserve food.
The name of mustard derives from the Latin "mustum ardens", because it was mixed with grape must and lemon juice.
Mustard is used both in whole seeds, which can be yellow (brassica alba) or black (black mustard - brassica nigra) depending on the variety of mustard, and ground.
